Privacy Policy
Effective 6 October 2026
Sudoku Arena is a daily Sudoku game with shared leaderboards. It runs as a web game, on itch.io and as a Discord Activity. This page explains what the game stores about you and why. In short: it keeps what it needs to show leaderboards and remember your results, plus anonymous statistics about how the game is used. There are no ads and no third-party trackers, and your data is never sold.
What is collected
If you play on the web or itch.io
- A guest account. Your browser creates a random recovery code and keeps it in its local storage. The server stores only a one-way hash of that code, so it can recognise your browser again.
- A display name. A generated name such as "Player-1234", or one you choose.
If you play inside Discord, or link a Discord account
- Your Discord user ID and display name, to identify your player and show your name on leaderboards.
- The IDs of the Discord servers you are in. These are saved each time you sign in and are used only to build the "shared servers" leaderboard, which lists players who are in at least one of the same servers as you. Server names, channels, messages and members are never read.
- Your Discord friends' user IDs, if you grant that permission. Your Discord app sends them with a leaderboard request so the friends leaderboard can be filtered. They are used for that request and are not stored.
The temporary access token Discord issues at sign-in is used to read the information above and is handed back to your Discord app. The game's server does not keep it.
When you play
- Your results: which daily puzzle you played, your solving time, pauses, mistakes and penalties, and your day streaks.
Stored in your own browser
The game keeps a sign-in token, your recovery code, the random visitor ID, your unfinished puzzle, and your light/dark preferences in your browser's local storage. It does not use cookies.
Technical logs
The game is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver the game and protect it from abuse, and request logs are kept for a short time to diagnose errors.
What other players can see
Leaderboards are public to everyone who plays. They show your display name, your times, mistakes and streaks, and the platform you played on. Your Discord user ID, server list, friends and recovery code are never shown to anyone.
How the information is used
- To run the game: start and time your puzzles, verify solves and prevent cheating.
- To show the daily, friends, shared-server and streak leaderboards.
- To keep your history when you return, and to combine a guest account with Discord if you link them.
It is not used for advertising or profiling, and it is not sold or shared with anyone else.
Who processes it
- Cloudflare hosts the game and its database.
- Discord, when you sign in with Discord or play the Activity. Discord's own privacy policy covers what Discord collects.
- itch.io, when you play there. itch.io's own privacy policy covers what it collects; the game receives no account information from itch.io.
How long it is kept
Your player record and results are kept so leaderboards and streaks stay accurate, until you ask for them to be deleted. A "Link Discord" request that is not completed expires after ten minutes.
Your choices
- Change your name at any time from the account dialog in the game.
- Remove Discord access in Discord under User Settings → Authorized Apps. The game then stops receiving anything from Discord, but results already saved remain until you ask for deletion.
- Ask for a copy or for deletion of your player record and results using the contact below. Say which display name or Discord account it concerns.
- Clear local data by clearing the site's data in your browser. Save your recovery code first if you play as a guest.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
